All new homes built in Victoria are required to achieve a minimum 6 Star Rating using FirstRate5. This rating encourages more sustainable building practices, makes the home more comfortable to live in and reduces the energy required to power the home.

The rating must be performed by an accredited Thermal Performance Assessor (or Energy Rater). Carbon Wise is accredited by Building Designers Association of Victoria to perform these assessments.

Our assessments will also nominate solutions to improve the thermal performance of the home if your plans do not achieve the 6 Star rating. If you are trying to achieve better than a 6 Star rating, talk to us about how that can be achieved in the most cost-effective ways.

To have your plans assessed you will need to provide the following:

• Floor plans including floor levels, orientation to true north, window sizes, frame and glazing details (if no window schedule is provided)
• Proposed floor coverings in each room
• Number and location of exhaust fans and whether sealed or unsealed
• Number and location of any vented downlights
• Width of eaves, pergolas and verandahs
• Elevations displaying doors, windows and ceiling heights
• Insulation types and R values
• Details of weather stripping around doors and windows
• Distance to and height of neighbouring buildings, fences, screens or other obstructions.

Plans may be sent in hardcopy or softcopy .pdf, .jpeg or .gif file. Turn around will be quicker if soft copies are sent.
